Tübingen is also a young, contemporary town and an international center of art and culture. With a population numbering some 110,000, Reutlingen is a town where venerable buildings with a long and distinguished history harmonize gracefully with modern architecture. The beautiful old town is a favorite tourist haunt, full of historic houses, churches, towers and fountains, but Reutlingen also boasts high-class restaurants and a lively cultural and leisure scene, with plenty of concerts, museums, theaters and exhibitions. The surrounding countryside is richly varied, offering many opportunities for outdoor sports such as sailing, skiing and free climbing. Reutlingen is also the gateway to the Swabian mountains, within easy reach of the many hiking trails and recreation areas.

The nearby state capital of Baden-Württemberg offers a wide variety of entertainments to suit every taste. Lovers of art and culture will particularly appreciate the State Gallery, the State Museum, the Stuttgart Philharmonic, the State Orchestra and the State Theater, not to mention the many private theaters that flourish in the city. Fans of technology will want to visit the Mercedes-Benz Museum or the Porsche Museum, while the athletically inclined will enjoy watching Stuttgart's own soccer team at home, or catching the Stuttgart Kickers in action, or attending some of the many international sporting events. And of course there are regular social events to be enjoyed throughout the year, such as the Cannstatt Volksfest (“People's Festival”), the Stuttgart Summer Festival, the Stuttgart Wine Village and the famous Christmas Market.
